Danny Gottlieb

Danny Gottlieb (born April 18, 1953) is a freelance drummer who has performed as part of the Pat Metheny Group, the Mahavishnu Orchestra,and the Gil Evans Orchestra. He and his percussionist wife Beth have been a members of Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band since 2004. He has been performed on more than 400 CDs, including nine Grammy nominations, resulting in four Grammy Award winners. He is a Nashville resident who is also a member of the University of North Florida jazz faculty, where he teaches as a full-time Professor of Jazz Studies.

Danny Gottlieb graduated from the University of Miami in 1975. He has studied privately with Joe Morello, Mel Lewis, Gary Chester, Bob Moses, Ed Soph, Jack DeJohnette.

Danny Gottlieb appears on over 400 CDs to date, including four Grammy winners. As a leader, he has five CDs under his own name, nine as co-leader of Elements, with Mark Egan; two as co-leader with Pete Levin, and three as co-leader of the Contempo trio, with Mark Soskin and Chip Jackson. He is currently the drummer for Gary Sinise's Lt. Dan Band (2004–present). He also co-leads the fusion band Elements with former Metheny bassist Mark Egan, and often performs duo concerts with his percussionist wife, Beth Gottlieb.
Gottlieb is a clinician/endorser for Zildjian, Remo, DW Drums and Hardware (Westheimer Corp.), Hot Sticks, Regal Tip Brushes, Hammerax Percussion, Eames Drum Shells, LP Percussion, Rhythm Tech Percussion,(Alternate mode Products), (Humes and Berg Cases), (Hudson Music), (Mark Electronic Drums), .
He has 12 educational DVDs, the most recent being ''Drumming Masterclass'' from True Fire; two from Homespun; nine other titles available from the Mel Bay Company (Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced Jazz Drums; Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced Rock Drums; and three with his teacher, the legendary Joe Morello "Natural Drumming" (vol 1-3, Mel Bay).
In 2011, Gottlieb authored a text, ''The Evolution of Jazz Drumming'' (Hudson), which continues to be a best seller and is used widely in universities around the world. It was #1 at Amazon in Percussion song Book sales for many weeks.It was influenced by the Mel Lewis interviews done by NY Jazz Museum director Loren Shoenberg, and those interviews can be accessed through Gottlieb's website (dannygottlieb.org) or through the Percussive Arts Society website.
Gottlieb currently is a full Professor of jazz drumset and jazz studies at the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville, Florida. His wife Beth, a Nashville-based live and recording performer, is the percussionist with Gary Sinise's group (garysinisefoundation.org).
